Dual OS Questions.

If I were to Load two OS's for dual Boot up.

Can it be on the same Partition ?


Currently it's XP Home and want to give XP MCE a try.


Current HD set up is C: (320gb) + I🙁250GB).

Can the 2nd OS be installed on the I Drive ?
I dont want to chance ruining a C:

What would be the best way to go about this ?

Dude, do you have a spare drive?

It's the #1 guaranteed way that you won't (or something else) mess something up.

After getting it set up, you can then switch boot OS from the Bios, some Bios even have a multiboot hotkey for Drive0, Drive1, etc.

Anyway, what do you have currently on the I drive? If just data, back it up, copy to C:, burn to DVD, whatever.

After you have everything off, disconnect C:, format your 250, install, yay 🙂
 
Best way is to install to a different drive.

If you have only 1 drive, then try doing a partition of about 10-20GB and install your new OS there.

If you don't like it, then delete the new partition.

FTW. When I'm screwing around with new operating systems I always do one per drive and usually physically switch them when I want to switch oses. Or on my one system I can switch booting between sata and pata, but even then, if I'm fooling around with partitioning software I always feel safer with the other drive unplugged.

Dual booting is a hassle and I only do it when I have two operating systems that I know I'm going to have stable for long term and that I need to switch between often.

microsoft itself doesn't allow to install 2 oses on the same partition, but there are some boot managers that support installing several oses on one partition, i know for sure that os selector can do this. But as for me i don't advice to do this. If you have one drive? the best way would be to create an another partition and install the second windows there.
