OK, here's where I'm at: I've got a 9800pro agp w/an old 19" NEC monitor that works just fine. I'm trying to add a 2nd monitor, either an old MAG or Sony. Both of these monitors work just fine on my brother's machine, but on this machine I can't get them to work as primary or secondary monitors.
As a primary , the MAG just sits there, black screen. The sony will attempts to boot, then shuts down. Both are just black screened as secondaries. The NEC will work as primary or secondary.
I've tried every setting I can find in display properties to no avail. The MAG is listed as a secondary monitor, but just sits there.
At this point I'm thinking I need to pull the 9800, delete the drivers, and start over from scratch w/the NEC plugged in as primary and one of the others plugged in as secondary.
Anybody have any better ideas or suggestions?

Try the picture first.

If not, can the monitors support over 800x600@60Hz (requirement for XP)? Did you set the refresh rate to an unsupported level? Resolution too high?

I've got the extended box checked. 600x800 res on the 2nd monitor. 70mhz refresh.

The wall I'm hitting right now is that both monitors won't work as primary or secondary units. I know they're both good, and the MAG shows up in display properties as secondary, but nothing but black screen.

It's the non functioning primary that bugs me. Seems like a monitor's a monitor.

BTW, I'm running xp pro.

I got it. I booted into vga mode, with the secondary monitor hooked up in the primary position, and it lit up. Shut down, hooked my main monitor to primary and the old Sony to secondary, booted, rebooted, and it works just fine.

Thanks for the feedback JAAG. Now that I've got duals, I want 3. Heh, so it goes.
