Dual monitors with laptop

I'm looking to pick up a cheaper gaming laptop for my daughter. Something like this one on sale at NE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...52616-Index-_-LaptopsNotebooks-_-34315302-S0K

Anyways, while it does have a HDMI port, I want to make sure she will be able to use both the laptop screen AND a monitor connected to the HDMI -- a poorman's dual monitor set up. Every other laptop I have owned in the past allowed this, but that was quite a while ago (DVI and VGA)
