Dual monitors with certain DVI connectors

If a graphics card has only 1 DVI connector which looks like this, will it support 2 monitors working as 2 separate screens with a DVI splitter (not just clones)?

Is there absolutely any way to extend the display to a second monitor via this connection with splitters (not just clone)?
