dual monitors + TV tuner

I have heard that you can't run a TV tuner if you have dual monitors. This sounds really wacky to me, so can anyone confirm or deny this?

Thanks...

egak that makes sense. thanks..I heard something though that it utilizes 100% CPU while doing so, if it was possible?

Just out of curiosity what is your multi-monitor setup and what TV tuner do you have, and what software do you use?

If anyone else has dual mons + TV tuner, can you please also list that. thanks 🙂

Looking into a Leadtek tuner and Sapphire R7000 dualhead for display (not for my computer)

Perfect 😉 how's the Leadtek treating you, BTW?

Does it use up a lot of CPU while you're viewing TV?

Any idea if you can use it with DScaler or VirtualDub or PowerVCR?

Cheers 🙂 also anyone else who wants to share their experiences.. I'd appreciate it.

yea I use dual LCD flatscreens and I use a digital TV tuner..
No, its doesn't take 100 % utilization....no where near even on Digital Tuner ( MPEG 2 stream)...
But yes I belive it only works on the primary Display only..Main Reason being that there is only one video Overlay..at least in My MSI GF4 ti4600.....

Video Streams of this type aren't written into the frame buffer.....its in the overlay....idea being that it didn't kill your screen buffer.......Try using a TV card and using print screen. The video only comes out as a black box..coz print screen only empties the screen buffer..but not the video overlay...

Here is my setup..
P4 2.26, MSI GF4 Ti4600,Hauppague WinTV NOVA-T PCI DVB tv card. on Eizo 375 and Sharp LLT1620

I have duals on a VT Geforce 3 with and old Banshee. My TV tuner is a Haupauge Win TV Go w/FM radio. I use the normal Haupauge software and can do full screen on the second monitor, but that is the Banshee which does use around 70% cpu usage. If I full screen it on the G3 then is drops to 30%. I'm waiting for the ATI 9800 Pro to come out so I can get rid of the G3 and the Banshee.

Digital is the way to go...provided you have service( not too sure about that in the states)...
MPEG2 looks much better than MPEG 1...

Don't expect to play games and watch TV....

Yes you can do word processing or surf the net with a digital TV tuner on with out adverse effects on perfomance..

Unless you buy something like an ATI ALL-IN-WONDER PCI card, you should have no problems with using a TV tuner with a dual monitor solution (dual head video card or 1 AGP and 1 PCI video card).

I was running 1 AGP and 1 PCI video card with the Hauppauge WinTV-dbx FM PCI TV tuner card without any problems... I'm just got the EPoX 8RDA+ and cannot watch TV however (but I think it's some problem between the mobo and the TV tuner card itself).

That's exactly what this system had, All in Wonder (AGP though) and a cheapo PCI video card. Worked fine with a single monitor but would not go with duals.

Thanks for the input everyone...OK, has anyone used it with DScaler or PowerVCR or VirtualDub? I do hear that it relies a bit on the type of software you use.

Let's see, Leadtek GeForce2 MX DualHead + an old STB PCI TV + DScaler 4 Alpha. I'm only feeding a signal from my VCR via S-Video and the tuner on the STB doesn't seem to work (hey, I bought it off of EBay many years ago). Even still, DScaler maxes out one of my two 1.4GHz CPUs and too can only use my primary display.

MSI GeForce 4 Ti4200 with dual monitors, and a Hauppauge WinTV card here, can run it on either monitor, and full screen on either monitor 🙂

Only thing can't do is have it span monitors 🙂
