hi my friend is going to buy a 6600GT, but wants to use both of his CRT monitors in a dual monitor display. I dont think the 6600GT has dual vga :l, and i think perhaps using his pci ati 9200SE with the nv is a bad idea? So basically i am wondering if there is a splitter adapter that can connect to the vga port on the 6600 and allow 2 monitors to be plugged in or something???

Or other suggestions welcome, thanks :)

You will have to check on the 6600 card. I believe some of have dual DVI or D-SUB and DVI with and adapter.

Using the ATI card with the Nvidia card is fine, dont worry about it.

It doesnt matter you can just the converters that come free with the card.

Most 6600GTs are one VGA and one DVI, with the adapter you can do 2 vga.

Theres a few that are dual DVI too, and those usually come with 2 vga adapters as well.

Exactly.

And I, like most people, am wary of cross branding a machine with 2 different cards like that. I've heard stories of some bad driver conflicts. It's not so much of an issue if you keep the same brand of card when you do a PCI + AGP though. But it's not something I've reallly tried yet on my own.

I've had no problems mixing brands when using an AGP and a PCI card. Granted it was an old radeon card with an even older matrox PCI card.

As for two monitors off one 6600 card, I don't see why that would be a problem. As long as the card has two outputs, it'll run two monitors. Immagine the complaints a company would get if it had two outputs but you could only use one of them at a time? You could run into a resolution limitation on the secondary monitor though.
