Dual monitor with vga & dvi

I have a video card that has DVI and HDMI. The computers motherboard has a vga but my computer doesn't detect the monitor when I plug the vga monitor in. Is there anyways to use my stock monitor input and my video card input?

Most onboard graphics are disabled once you stick in a video card. If you want a third output, you'll probably need another video card. USB -> VGA adapters are available, ~$50 or so if you wanted to go that route.

I got a free monitor from a friend hoping to get a use out of it. I'm not interested in buying adapters for it. Thanks for the responses.

What video card is this? Our computers at work have Intel Q35 chipset graphics and support dual monitors with one on DVI and one over VGA.

Why? Adapters are cheap and may have come with your video card.

I assume you're using DVI on an existing monitor? If so, all you'd need is an HDMI-> DVI adapter and a DVI-> VGA adapter for the newly acquired monitor.

And depending on your motherboard/graphics card combo, you might have access to a feature AMD/ATI called SurroundView, which would let you use the onboard output with the graphics card's outputs.

Umm normally you can still utilize the on board graphics along with your addon card. I have done this many, many times with white boxes and OEM machines.

Usually you have to enable the IGP in the MB bios first.
