Dual Monitor with Sharing Cable

I am running the onboard video (Intel) adapter on my system at work. I am trying to use 2 vga monitors. I bought a monitor sharing cable and not a monitor spliting cable. I was told that there is software to let me use the dual monitors like i would with a splitting cable.

I have gone into the display properties and tried to extend the monitor to the second default monitor that the intel software will allow. It says "not ready" and is grayed out. It wont hold the enable.

Please help in any way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a split monitor cable will allow you to do what you're trying to do. You need a video card that supports dual monitors in order to have two monitors that do NOT have identical displays. A monitor splitting cable is designed to share the same display on two monitors.
