Dual Monitor Video Playback Issue?

Ok, I just setup Dual Monitors and everything seems to work fine, they are set horizontally with basically everything seperated on each monitor, and windows are not allowed to be "stuck" between the displays, etc.

So now when I watch a video in Nero or WMP, it plays the video automatically in full screen on my secondary monitor, which I do not mind and I know I can turn that off. My problem is that while that video is playing and if I want it to show up on my nicer primary monitor in full screen it tries to span both monitors, so I get half a full screen image on my primary and the full image playing on secondary.

Sorry if this is confusing, but I would like to at least be able to watch the video on seperate displays and have the option of spanning both displays.

Thanks in advance!

You'll have to specify what Gfx card you are using and the driver version.

It sounds like the Gfx card is spanning the desktop and therefore when you go to fullscreen it puts half the image on the left & half on the right display.

You would have to disable the spanning in the drivers and have each display with independent resolutions (even though they could/would be the same). This would allow the video to be played on either the right or left screen.

If in fact this is the problem.

Ok, I'm running an NVidia 6800, Forceware 77.72 and I actually have each monitor with it's own 1280x1024 resolution. For example, if I make firefox full screen it knows to keep it to my primary display and not stretch it. However WMP ignores these rules for some reason and tries to span the monitors EVERYTIME I make it full screen.

Hope this is more specific.

Hmm, is there any option within WMP that could be causing this or could limit this activity?

Also you might try to simply maximize WMP in the monitor you wish to view it (instead of going fullscreen). I understand it is not a solution but its kind of a work around.

I can't locate any kind of option to fix this in WMP or anywhere else, I was just wondering if anyone else had ever experienced this.

I also just found that CS:S tries to boot using both displays, and I can't seem to fix that. However BF2 boots correctly on just display 1? This is really starting to bug me.

So not only are the settings in the Windows display properties correct but also the Nvidia drivers? Its possilbe that in Windows it shows 2 independent displays however in Nvidia drivers it says "Span displays"

I really have never heard of anything like this before. The only other thing I would suggest (If this doesnt work) would be to try the latest drivers from Nvidia or even an older driver. This would at least issolate if the drivers are the issue (I would think).

Ok, I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them, and by doing this I was able to let Windows setup the dual monitors and not mess with it in the NVidia settings. This fixed the problem. Nvidia was setting the resolution to 2100x2000(something like that) which I guess was the problem, now everything opens properly in its own window.

JayhaVVKU,

That's great. I thought that there was "Spanning" going on there somewhere. The resolution of 2560x1024 would have been the spanning resolution.

I'm glad it worked out.

It's the difference between extending the desktop or setting up 'dualview'. Dualview is what you want, where you have 2x(1280x1024) for example, other than 2560x1024 etc.
