Dual monitor so need good PCI gfx card?

My old system has Matrox 8M G200 AGP and ATI 8M Xpert@Work PCI. Am sorting new system, so I'll be leaving the old system with only one gfx card. Eventually I'll be building another new Linux server. I'd like to end up with two seriously excellent cards in the one I'm building now. I could either:
(i) get a 32M GeForce 2 GTS now but then I'd be running the old 8M Xpert@Work as the second display for now and get another (better) PCI card when the other Linux box happens and swap, or
(ii) I could get (say) a 32M TNT2 PCI card now and run it with the 8M G200 but when the other box happens get the 32M GeForce 2 GTS or whatever is along by then and put the G200 in the Linux box.

What I want to know is, if I did (ii) in a new 1GHz+ system am I going to be horribly let down by it for my main screen? (I don't suppose the G200 will be as fast as a TNT2 card even if the G200 is on AGP and the TNT2 on PCI.)

btw both screens will be running 1600x1200.

Gurus, send me your flames, or comments!

Cheers,

John.
