Dual monitor setup with integrated video card?

Does anyone know if it would be possible to do a multiple monitor setup with integrated video and also using the AGP port on a motherboard? Or is that entirely impossible.

I was just curious as to whether or not you could use a nForce integrated video to one monitor, and then have an Geforce3 or something similar running on the AGP port. For some reason, I sort of doubt one could, but I was just curious if anyone has tried.

I don't know for sure, but I would think that it can't be done because I believe the nForce integrated video is on the AGP bus, therefore, making it impossible to run another AGP card at the same time.

Most/all onboard video is AGP. Therefore, adding your own AGP card will disable what's on the motherboard. However, a *good* BIOS will let you had a PCI card and run two displays.

The integrated video on all compliant nForce boards is definately AGP. You'll have no problems using a PCI card for a secondary monitor. How much gaming do you do and how large is your monitor?

Also note that your nForce board will also have an actual AGP for a card so you could buy yourself a GeForce3 and also buy a cheapy PCI video card.

I figured as much, although I'm still wondering if anyone has tried. Either way, since they both use the AGP bus, it's probably not possible.

I'm just speculating - I don't plan on actually doing this setup (although the 415D looks very, very appealing) but was just wondering if it was possible. The general idea is to have both cards running on some sort of high speed bus and save a PCI slot, so....yeah. It's just me scheming. 😉

Unless you are planning on gaming off the PCI card, get yourself a cheap Matrox (Millennium/Mystique). These easily do 1600x1200 in 2D and probably offer the best compatibility.

Yes there are but it's not worth it to blow your money on it. Listen to what the guys are saying here. You're only going to be gaming off of on card and 1 monitor (in general) at once so you would only need 1 "performance video card" and a plane (aka cheap as you can get) PCI video card.
