Dual Monitor setup question

I just bought a samsung 940B. I was wondering if it'd be possible to play games on the samsung, and have another monitor being my desktop where i could switch to it and IM/browse etc. How do i go about setting that up?

1) Plug them both in.
2) Enable the second monitor.
3) ...
4) Profit?!



Please search if you need more detailed instructions; this is a VERY common topic.

And unless you play your games in a window, clicking on anything on the second display will likely screw it up (it's like hitting alt-tab from the application's point of view). Also, games that don't lock down the mouse cursor (like some RTS games) will let you move the cursor onto the second monitor even in 'fullscreen' mode.
