Im getting a dell ultrasharp 1905fp later this week and i hear they are terrible for playing games on...especially if its ur first lcd...which it will be

so i was wondering if i should keep my 19" crt hooked up to run games on and just do my school work and aol and websurfeing etc on the new lcd....if that is what i should do how do i set it up...and my video card is bfg 6800gt in case that matters...

thanks for ur help

If you have the latest drivers for your videocard it shouldn't be a problem.

Just hook both monitors up and fool around with the different display options available. I think going in an playing with the different display modes is a good way to find out what your options are.

There are plenty of dual monitor questions over in the Video area if you want more info.

Yeah you will want to keep your CRT for gaming. The Dell has a 20 ms response time, not the best for gaming. nVidia has a wide range of settings for dual displays, so don't worry about it being supported on a 6800gt. If given a choice, I would steer clear of that particular Dell screen and pick up an 8ms screen. All LCD's pretty much look good for 2d apps, but with an 8ms screen you at least have the option to game on it.

i had trouble getting both monitors to work at the same time....they are both vga monitors and one is hooked up by a converto through a dvi port on the videocard....the computer recognized it was connectedbut i couldnt get picture on both at once....any help would be reatly appreciated

In the Display Settings tab, there should be drop down combo box for extending display to second monitor. I don't excatly remember but you might first have to enable this feature from withing NVidia settings loacted inside Advanced dialog box (button in Settings Tab).

Actually, after you enable the display, it's a check box to extend the desktop. (as you can see in the picture I posted above)

k it says it supports dual monitors right on the page where you change the setting from single display to dual display...but when i change it the image still only appears on one monitor...but it recognizes the other is connected...do i need the latest drivers? and if so can i have a link to the latest drivers for the 6800 gt? all help is appreciated...

Drivers should have nothing to do with it, unless you didn't install the control panel app that's included. There's a setting you're missing, or something that you're not taking into consideration.

Just play with the settings for a while. I'm sure in about 10 minutes you can flip through a bunch of different settings. There's no options you can pick/select/enable that would damage your hardware (unless it's overclocking options) so just go nuts until you figure it out. It's not rocket science.

i no its not reocket science and i still cant get it to work which is extremely frustrating...if anyone has any ideas id love to hear them
