Dual monitor setup -- how to maximize windows to only one screen?

i have a dual monitor setup here at work and when i maximize windows, it expands across both screens into one huge rectangle

is there any way to have windows maximize to one screen only? right now i have to manually resize windows to fit a single screen which is a big pain

If you have an Nvidia, use the NVIEW properties in the videocard settings. If you have an ATI, I am not sure, but it is probably something similar. Just right click on your desktop -> properties -> 'Settings' tab -> Advanced
