Dual monitor set up question

Hello,
I have a 6600GT 2DVI Video card and a Samsung Synchmaster Digital/analog monitor on one DVI and an adaptor and analog LCD on the other DVI. When I start win 2000, all the stuff come up on both monitors, simultaneously but then just before windows starts, the analog monitor says no signal and dies. This is my first multi monitor setup, so could someone please advise? Thanks
 
display properties|settings, click on the second monitor, check box that says enable.
 
Not sure about 2k, but in XP, Nvidia's drivers have all kinds of fancy settings I have yet to play with for dual monitors.

Incidentally, comparing my 2005FPW to my old 17in NEC . . . man, that NEC was a POS. . . .
 
Start/Control Panel/Display

Display Properties/Settings/right-click on the grayed-out #2 monitor/Attached/Apply.
 
sorry to be a dumb dork on this one, but what tab do i open up under the nvidia desktop manager. the first tab already says enable, click to disable
 
i dont have any grayed out #2 monitor tab on my start/cp/display/settings/

I only have the usual troubleshoot & advanced tabs and all the usual stuff
 
Right click anywhere on the open desktop that you can see (on the working monitor) Click the "Properites" option. Click the "Settings" tab when teh window opens. You should now see a screen that looks like this: http://www.auctionspice.com/misc/monhelp.jpg <---linky The grey box that says "2" in it should be faded out like it is inactive. Right click in the box that says "2" and select "attached" This should turn on the monitor.

If it does not you may have a driver issue, did you install drivers over the top of drivers from an old video card you replaced?
 
Aha you folks are using win Xp. I got win 2000. I reloaded the driver and now i get both monitors working, but they are both showing the same thing. (working like a vga splitter) I want to do different stuff on the 2 monitors. How do I de-couple them?
 
There is ussually an option in the settings tab of the display properites box that says "Extend Desktop" or something like that. Select the picture of monitor #2 and check the box towards the bottom of the window that says" Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" That should do the trick....

IF that doesn't do anything, there is an nVidia option (I don't have an nvidia card anymore so I can't get you a screenshot," but I think its the nView control panel, that has options for "Clone" or Extend" regarding dual monitors.
 
when i use the nview desktop manager/windows/identify displays/ i get a big number 1 on both monitors. should'nt it show 1 on the first monitor and 2 on the second?
 
You'd sure think so! Thats definately wierd in my book. I only wish I had a dual output nVidia card so I could help you out further. I guess my experience runs out here. Sorry. Google may provide some answers for you. I"m sure others have had this problem before.
