dual monitor issue

I've got a new 1920x1200 monitor but I want to use it alongside my old 1680x1050. I'm running a 7600gt. I'm fiddling around with the nVidia control panel but I can't figure out how to get both monitors at their native resolution. Instead it's giving me all sorts of weird spanning resolutions. How can I do it?

I've seen before on other machines something native in the desktop properties where you normally set the resolution, a little display where you can click and drag around each monitor and set it up how you like it. Why am I not seeing that?

Cuz you're not using Windows' display properties settings. Right-click the desktop, select Properties, and choose the Settings tab.

I am, though... that's what I'm saying. The option isn't there. It's showing the resolution slider as a combination of the two monitors rather than showing the two screens and letting me pick for each one individually. nVidias drivers seem to be intercepting it somewhere.

Yes. Both monitors are displaying. That's not the issue. The issue is that they are both at reduced resolution and look like crap and I can't seem to find a way to resolutions independently and arrange them like I'd like.

You should be able to set it all up somewhere in the nVidia driver control panel, although unfortunately I can't remember where since I haven't used nVidia for a while, but I know there's a dual view thing somewhere in the NV control panel thing somewhere.
Sorry I can't be more helpful. Might want to try a post in the video forums instead.

My mistake. I thought you were saying that you were using the nVidia control panel.

I've been using nVidia since the Ti-200, and have never seen it intercept Windows display properties settings with any of my cards/drivers. I've never had a problem setting separate resolutions with any of my dual-monitor display configs over the years. A screenshot of what you are seeing would help.

Here is a picture:

As you can see, the Windows settings panel seems confused that there are two monitors. The nVidia panel knows, but no matter how much I futz around in there I can't get good results. In "change resolution" only one of the sliders works (on the secondary monitor, no less). If I go to "manage custom resolutions" and type in 1680x1050 I can get it on both monitors, but I can't seem to get 1920x1200 on the main no matter what I do, it just wants to set them both to the same rez. All I want is the default windows control back, that one actually works :(

*sigh*
All I needed to do was reboot with both monitors plugged in. I apologize to everyone who's time I've wasted with this =\
