Dual Monitor help required

Hi all, I have to get a staff member a laptop and external LCD. The Ext LCD will be connected to the docking station.
The idea is when out and about the lappy will use it own lcd but when docked, the Ext LCD. Trouble is will be different native resolutions. We dont want to use extended desktop with both lappy and lcd. Is this possible?

Sure its possible. The desktop resolution will just change when you switch screens.
