System:

P3-500 Katami
Abit BX6-R2
384MB PC133
AGP: 3dfx Voodoo 5
PCI: Toshiba TV/FM Card
PCI: SB Live Value!
PCI: Promise Ultra-66
PCI: Linksys 10/100 Ethernet Card
PCI: ATI XPERT 98 (Rage Pro 8MB)

I have latest drivers for both video cards. If I set PCI Init first in bios, everything works fine. ATI is primary and 3dfx is secondard, but this sucks, can't play games. I set AGP init first and boots into windows. The ATI is detected and prompts for me to enable this monitor to use it in windows. After I enable it in Display Properties and click OK, system freezes. The ATI display receives a black feed, not blank screen. What's the deal???

Ditch the POS ATI card and pick up a G200 PCI or something. I had an Xpert 98 as my second display adapter and had nothing but problems with it. Popped in a G200 I got on uBid for $63 and it's perfect. Better image quality too.

If memory serves, there are known issues with ATI cards as secondary display adapters.

I use matrox mill. 2's with 4 or 8 megs for secondary monitors and normally pick them up for $20.00 or so.

I am running an ATi Xpert128 16MB AGP as secondary, but only up to 1024x768x24-bit, I think. I don't know the refresh (not at home to check right now). Using WinME and Win2K.

Ok, thanks everybody, I've got it working. Turns out the the ATI Xpert 98 PCI does not like Rage Pro drivers (for some weird reason). I installed RageXL drivers instead and it worked like a charm.

Primary: Sony 19" E400 FD Trinitron 1280x1024x32 @ 85Hz on 3dfx Voodoo 5 5500 AGP
Secondary: Compaq 19" MV920 1280x1024x24 @ 85Hz on ATI Xpert 98 PCI 8MB

The picture is definately better on the Sony. I've seen the people actually put 2 voodoo 5's in a system for multimonitor. Check out this helpful link here

Merry Christmas!
