Dual Monitor Annoyance

I have a dual monitor setup in Win2k.
Viewsonic E771 on an ATI 3D Rage Pro PCI
Viewsonic E771 on and ATI 3D Rage Pro AGP

Everything works fine and looks great except both monitors have a light horizontal line. On one the line moves up the screen. It moves down the screen on the other monitor. It disappears when I turn either monitor off.

Any ideas?

EMI -- electro magnetic interferance.. or is it electric?

I've had this problem, and I've used 5 or 6 different monitor combinations..

Anyway, seperate the monitors, move them apart, or do what I did: move thier backs apart but keep the fronts together so they are pointed "inward" at like 15+ degrees. Like if you site a bit close and turn them both to face you. Worked for me.

You can also lower the refresh rate sometimes, that has & hasn't worked for me.

well you could try shielding the monitors from each other.

Moving them approximately 1.5 feet away solved the problem, but my desk doesn't really allow this setup. Is there any easy way I can shield them (besides the dentist vest trick)?

I had this problem with my two 19" monitors... I grabbed a metal cookie sheet and stuck it between them. I fixed the problem completely

Odd. It worked for me. Maybe go to your local hardware store like Home Depot and ask someone if they have a sheet of lead metal... That should do the trick..

It also could be refresh rates of the monitors. Are they synced?

Yeah, mess with the refresh rates. Or, get an older/thicker cookie sheet!

If you can get a utilility that fine tunes things, you could probably get it right. For instance, my monitors will have problems with both at thier max in 32bit color, 84Hz on my 19" and 85Hz for my 17". Lines dane around.. make the first 82Hz and I'm fine. Change to 24bit color and I can up it more and it will be fine...

It's like if you ever did chemistry/physics with adding waves, when sometimes they would cancel and others amplify.. need to find a combination or block things.

Anybody have any recommendations on a refresh rate utility? I am having trouble finding one that will work in Win2k.

I have the same thing. One going up and on the other monitor one line going down... is it really just interference? How do I shield it?

Try to ground your cookie sheet to the chassis of your computer (use any screw) or to the electrical outlet ground.
