Well, assuming you have an ATI or nVidia card, installing the latest drivers (or old ones for that matter) will enable dual display. And seeing as to how you have no choice but to install a video driver, you should have no issues getting going. Care to share exactly which card you have?

well i have a dell desktop at work, and physically there are two vga ports. just wondering if my desktop would automatically be enlarged to encompass both monitors. i dont have full admin rights and i cant install drivers on my own without those rights. i just want to make sure dual monitors works as simple as plugging the 2nd monitor in, that way its easier to negotiative my supervisor in purchasing an extra monitor for me without having to get IS involved.

Well, if you have 2 VGA ports, are they on the same card? Or are there seperate cards? Without having full admin rights to fiddle incase it doesn't work right off the bat, I really don't know what to tell you. The best thing to do is to grab a nearby monitor, if possible, and just plug her in. If it works, it's works.

It all depends on how restricted your account is. Some admins don't even let their users choose the resolution, others are more lenient.
