Dual Mointors Affecting Performance

Thinking about this... I in a way feel stupid but does running dual monitors affect the performance of the graphics card in a game?

I have 2 monitors running 1024*768 @ 85 hz on my GF4 Ti4400 and I was wondering... would it make a difference in game performance if I only had 1 monitor connected?

With being in University, I cant afford to overspend and that means paying no attention to my PC (apart from a nifty printer) so any form of upgrade is out of the question. If running 2 monitors affects performance greatly enough, I can always disconnect one if I want to play games.

Shouldn't make a lick of difference unless you're actually trying to game on both monitors (nView Single-Display Span mode, 2048x768 virtual resolution) - at least it didn't with my old Ti4200.

Thats a bad thing in this case 😀

If disconnecting a monitor meant better performance, it'd be worth it in some cases.

But thanks for the reply.

My feelings:
If you're running in clone mode (same resolution and display on each screen) it shouldn't make TOO much of a difference, but I'm sure you'll encounter a slight performance drop. If you're running a span, then it'll effectively double the number of rendered pixels, that'll be a huge hit.
