Is there any difference between a "dual channel" memory pack and two packages of the same memory, in terms of compatibility?

Basically, I got a 2x1GB memory pack off ebay that has the dual "kit" part number, but the seller sent me two separate 1GB modules for some reason. It probably shouldn't make any difference, but I just wanted to be sure.

Kits generally are made up of the same batch so they'll both crap out at the same FSB (better for OCing) and you're certain it ill work in dual channel (it will work as long as the chips are similar, they don't have to be identical).

I don't like ebay for computer purchases for various reasons.

Not really. Some mfgs will guarantee the dual channel kit though. Most of the time two modules will work fine together in dual channel mode as long as the specs are the same.

Cool, I'll try them out then. The seller offers replacements if I contact him within seven days, but I want to avoid that hassle if possible. Actually, I am currently using two Corsair VS modules that were purchased separately (almost a year apart) and work just fine, but I wasn't sure if I just got lucky or what.

The chips should be the same; these are the OCZ PC4000 Platinum XTC sticks, which all use Micron 5B-F chips as far as I know. I am not sure about the batches though.

As for ebay, I got these things brand new for a value memory-like price, about $100 less than the retail prices, so I'm happy. :D
