Dual link DVI to display port adapter?

current video card = radeon 4850
it either has 2 dvi or 1dvi/1vga

monitors:
27" 2500x1400 -> dvi/vga/displayport
21.5" 1900x1080 -> dvi/vga

my new video card is a 6750. (less power used)
the ports are 1 dvi/1 hdmi/1 display port

the dvi will be used for the 21.5" monitor and the displayport for the 27".

which is better/cheaper?
buy a displayport cable?
or a dual link dvi to displayport adapter? (I have a spare dual link dvi cable.)

DP cable. Make sure you get one that is VESA approved though. Accell makes good ones.

1) get a DP-DP cable, should be around $10 (also, what kind of 1440p monitor do you have? as long as it has an active DP slot, the $10 cable should be fine)

or

2) get a HDMI->DVI cable ($10), and use the HDMI out on the 6750 for the 21.5" monitor's DVI port. then use the DVI cable for the 1440p monitor (I'm assuming that the DVI port on the 6750 is DL-DVI and the DVI cable you have is also DL-DVI)

Forget VGA... digital->analog->digital conversion sucks.

I'd just buy a DP cable, personally, but I'm partial to the small connector size in comparison with DVI.

You say your monitor has native displayport, in which case the BLINDINGLY obvious solution is to buy a DP cable for the DP monitor. Use whatever for the other monitor. DONE. This is by far the best solution.

If you are mistaken and your monitor does NOT have native DP, then the cheapest way to do it is to buy a single-link DVI to DP adapter for about $20-30 new, then use that adapter on the LOWER resolution monitor. Use the standard DVI/HDMI on the >1200p monitor. If you try to do it backwards, you will wind up buying a $80+ dual-link DVI to DP adapter.

It has DisplayPort (full, not Mini), you'll be fine
