I have a Pioneer dvd writer, 107D.

Do you think it will be possible to upgrade it for writing on dual layers dvd ?

No burner (to date, or to my knowledge) can be 'updated' to burn different media, or even different speeds.

This is not 100% true. my burner with firmware 1.09 can burn TDK rewritables at 1X, with 1.12 at 4X!

some time ago with 106, pioneer was able to burn dual layers media so i think is not impossible!

To all Dual Layer is 8.5 GB disc None of the DVD burner can burn 8.5 Gb only

factory can is a different way for them to burn is like glue on to the disc & is done all it take is 15 - 20 sec 4 disc at a time

The next DVD burn can burn 8.5 GB is coming this summer or late 2004

PS I you think you Pioneer A06 can burn dual layer your drive Is BAD or your disc is & last your software & you may have a virus or you mess up during firmware upgrade

Long answer: DVD recordable drives today *could* probably burn DVD DL media. It isnt that hard. They can read DVD DL cant they? It is just a matter of having the correct burn strategies (oh and that stupid part about having media too).

Burning DL is incredibly easy on the behalf of the burner - it comes down to the media.

If your dvd first ran at 1x and now at 4x that is weirds.
Either it be the software or driver that wasn't uptodate before or your dvd is showing false speeds,.
