dual layer dvd recorder for home theater

uhh...the only dual-layer DVD burners on the market are for computers. None in set-top boxes yet, AFAIK. Good luck trying to build one yourself 😕
Oh, and there's the other problem--there's no dual-layer media available in the states yet, and when it does come out this summer, it'll probably be at least $9 a disc. Not worth it IMO, wait a while and the prices will come down in the fall.

I've heard of DL media available now, but it's spotty. For instance, I read a thread today where a guy said he bought a $29 pack at Best Buy that included 1 DL disk and 10 DVD+RW disks.

The posts I've read suggest that in a week or so you will find DL on sale for around $5 initially.

I just popped in my new NEC 2510A DVD DL etc. drive, don't have any DL media and probably won't buy any for a while. It's my first burner and I'll be pleased to be burning single layer for a while. At less than $100 I figure it's about time to buy a DVD burner. The DL capability seems like a smart thing to get at this point.

DL is very spotty right now -- both in burning and reading. I really would wait 'till second generation.
