Dual layer DVD burners?

Does it really matter right now if a DVD burner is dual layer? I hear dual layer DVD's was high and also heard they can't be bought.

I am a newb to DVD burners so I don't know.

DL media can be had but it's expensive. Media prices always start out high and drop with time. Buying a DL drive may not do you much good now, but should be a good investment for the future.

my question is, can you buy a new (as in not used) dvd recorder and have it be non-DL capable and still make sense from the fiscal standpoint? ND3500A is $65 for christ sake.

BTW reason I ask is I was offered a NEC 8x burner for a few DVD's and its not dual layer. Just wondering if I should hold off?

I'm getting a dual layer burner in the next month. I have an old DVD-R drive now and I just want faster +/- burning speeds. By late next year the DVD+R9 (DL) media should be much cheaper than the $7-10 it is now. With DL burners under $70, it's crazy not to get one if you need a new one anyway.

Depends on the total cost to you. An 8x burner is about as fast as you can find cheap media for right now. If the price is right, go for it and enjoy.

IMO if you're getting a DVD burner today then it has to be dual capable in order to future proof yourself.

Hi I am using a Sony DRU-710A (Dual Layer DVD Burner).

Facing problems while buring the CD's/DVD's ..... its killing !!!!

The burning process goes successfully till 94%-95% then it throws up an error " INVALID BLOCK ADDRESS"

I have no Idea why??? Can any one help??

I am using NERO with Windows XP Pro.
