although you can firmware upgrade 2500, i'd rather pay a bit more to have official one.

media is still expensive/rare, but you don't have to buy a new burner in future when media does get cheap

Anyone who buys a late production date 2500 has a very good chance of having a 2510-capable drive. I'd be willing to bet that that they both come off the same production line ;)

The BB in my area has had the Sony DRU-700A for about two weeks now. It's priced at $199.99 though. And of course none of the employees knew what I was talking about when I asked when do they expect DL media. They thought I was talking doube sided discs.:(
