I am running a M.B that has dual LAN. My fathers computer is connected to the Cable Modem. Then we have a router directing cables do a bunch of different rooms. 1 next to my dads computer in the basement, 1 in the family room, 1 in the dining room, and one all the way to my room which is upstairs. So from basement (finished) to upstairs. We would rather not have to run another RJ-45 cable all the way from the basement to my systers room which is 5 yars away from mine.

As i now have dual LAN is there anyway i can have my computer hooked to the network on one slot, and then run a cable from my computer to her computer on the other slot. We kind of want to get her connected to the netowrk.

Sure you can, but your computer is now acting like a bridge/router. And then you would get to play with static routing in windows w00t!!

Ok Ok it's not easy, and not very fun.. but I have done it. However I haven't done it on the same network. Remember that a router forwards packets from one network to another. Your nics would need 2 different IP's address on 2 different networks. Futhermore you would need to start writng routes like :

route add (destination address) mask (subnet mask) gateway (gateway)

So my answer is yes, it can be done, but it will take some playing around with. Good luck and let me know how it comes out!

To be honest .... no :D

I guess you could hang a lil hub off your PC or the one closet to the new area you want to run a cable to. Run the cable that is in the back of your computer into the uplink port, then plug you machine into one of the free ports. Then from there run you cable to the new location.

Do not get carry away because you happen to have a $3 NIC on your Mobo.

If you Bridge.

1. The Bridged computer will be able to share the network but will not have Internet connection.

2. If you switch off your computer the Bridged computer is out of the Network.

Just get another Switch/Hub for $10, put it in your room her room or in-between. Connect the wire from the Router, your computer, and her computer to the Switch, and enjoy life.

I concur.

WAY better than dealing with routing in Windows.

Either that or run the cable. Again, easier than dealing with Windows configuration for this kind of thing.
