dual hard drive heat issues

Hi, I have a Shuttle SK41G (quite old model by now) and I have a 1.44MB floppy disk drive in 1 slot and a Western Digital 80GB IDE HD in the other. As I have NEVER touched my 1.44MB disk drive for an entire year now, I was considering removing it and putting in another HD. However, as this is a SFF case with STOCK cooling, I wonder if I will encounter heat issues by placing two ATA-100 HDs on top of each other. I have read reviews and people say Maxtor drives are definitely a negative due to their heat but that Western Digital drives run quite cool . So, if anyone has any ideas/experience on this issue, please reply. I'd love to get rid of that floppy drive, but not if it costs me the lost of data.
