AMD can.t get to 32nm first but ATI can and probably will release a 28nm. Part in 2nd QT. Bulk will be whats used . I think ATI has more than 1 leg up on the comp. NV 300 part as speced on the net . This year not a chance in hell.

Interesting.

In a nutshell, I think early on ATI thought "we're definitely going to be making a dual RV770 card" and Nvidia thought "we'll make a dual GT200 card if need be but we'll get to it whenever we get to it"

Clearly, this is your opinion, but I beg to differ.

I personally think NV's plan was more like this, "we're going to build a big, fast, single chip; then we're going to shrink it and put two of them together". Given that this is exactly what NVIDIA has been doing since 2006, it's not exactly a stretch to think it might actually have actually been part of their plan all along.

People seem to forget when Nvidia introduced the dual GPU setup they had the smaller, cooler, slightly less performing chip in the 7900 series. This reversal of fortunes of Nvidia having a large single chip and AMD\ATI the smaller chip is very recent.

7900 (G71/90nm) was a die shrink of the 7800 (G70/110nm), which is exactly what I said. G70 was just as large as ATI's current chips at the time:

(I'm not sure why AT didn't include G71 in the comparison)

Maybe you 're right, i don't have a freakin clue, just guessing!

The roadmap of TSMC the last years was perfect, i don't see why they will make mistakes now.

I remember articles about TSMC like:

http://www.semiconductor.net/a...lout_Plan_for_2009.php

or

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/o...hnologies_Roadmap.html

that are saying Q2-Q3 2009 32nm (so no skipping 32nm)

and Q1-Q2 2010 28nm

add half a year for partners products so:

Q1 2010 32nm (no freakin way GF will have 32nm partners product at the market at that time, it had 45nm phenom ii avaliability at Q1 2009)
Q4 2010 28nm (maybe they can match TSMC?, i don't know)

EDIT*
From Anand GF article:

Globalfoundries won?t be able to ship revenue generating wafers until 2012
(NY fab, but it has also the German one)

From same article:

In 2011 Global will offer a 28nm LP bulk process as well as a 28nm general purpose bulk process. The latter will be used for GPUs and other non-ultra-low-power devices.

the GF plan (let's see the execution) is:

Q4 2010 28nm tape out & Q2 2011 28nm risk production!

It is not even close to TSMC's plan! (1 Quarter+)

Unless once and for all this proves that it hasnt been the hardware, it has been the engine.

Anyway, that card is going to be a freaking beast. Something tells me nV is going to suprise people and launch the single GPUs in November. They are being strangely quiet. :p

ARMA 2 is chewing up my 2X280s, so I need more power!

Ya asked me for a link in the ATI thread. Here you are HYPING a product ya know nothing about unless you and others have links to NV saying so .

NV hype machine is a sickness in forums . As keys said lets see the links to NV saying anything . Hype Hype Hype and its likely to be a no show card.

Yes, please link to nV hyping, not people in forums. You said nV is hyping their products. I see Fuad not naming a source hyping it.

Ill add the GT300 gx2 card being a "no-show" to your prediction that ATi will have the next node out before nV gets 40nm GT300 out.

Yep . I did Miss speak the same as others on this thread . Unless you have a link to NV saying whats in this thread . Its a LIE HYPE. made by NV fanbois or AEG members to stopp ATI from advancing sales . Its been done here for years.

Yep and I will stand by that . Unless NV doesn't do a NEW ARCH as has been hyped . But instead stays with the 200 serious tech. But if NV 385 is what its suppose to be . Middle of 2010 earliest.

At this point I cant tell if you are serious or trying to be an over-the-top parody of yourself.

Unfortunately from an NV standpoint, it's trying to make a product that the chips weren't designed for, as has been the case in the past.
ATI are going with multiple chips for the high end performance, and NV is going large single die which is huge and outperforms any single die ATI card.

NV trying to force 2 on a card every generation while still going for large dies kind of goes against their whole strategy (apart from their strategy of having the highest performing single "card" - at all costs).

At the end of the day, NV will still hold the performance crown, and ATI will be making their strategy continue and hopefully work even better, and consumers are the ones who win as the two sides compete with each other.

ATi makes a dual card, it is "part of the plan." nV does it, and they are forcing it and are scared.

Oh this place gets good around new launches. :p

well, considering that starting with 3xxx amd stated their intention of always making a dual card their top dog and jen hsun has said on many occasions that he thinks that a single gpu on one card (like 8800gtx or gtx 285) is preferable to two gpus on one card (like 3870x2 or 4870x2), then I think that it IS reasonable to criticize nvidia for this. However, when you look at how well it has been IMPLEMENTED, I have to give nvidia a lot of credit. Amd designs their cards from the ground up with dual gpu in mind, yet nvidia implements sli much better imho than amd does xfire. I predicted when 3870x2 came out that amd would show steady improvements to their crossfire implementation and even pass sli's scaling/performance benefits, but that just hasn't happened. If anything, gtx 295 scales better than 4870x2 does. I suspect that this is a function of nvidia's larger operation/more employees/better funding relative to amd. It will be interesting to see if amd can close this gap a little bit this round.

Everything you just said has been debunked in this thread already.

It doesnt matter if you think they are "taped together." In fact, the Rev 2 295s are on a single PCB as well.

nV is already planning the GT300 x2 card well in advance, so your two-week comment is bogus.

"Finesse" and "design" are not worried about by 99% of people who buy graphics. All that matters to most people are benchmarks and price. Some people are willing to pay more for that extra power, some prefer the price V performance like that of the 4890.

By your theory, the people should have purchased Phenom over the Q6600 because the Q6600 was just two E6600's taped together.

Like said before, it could be ran off of magic fairy dust. If it still performs well, is within your budget, you are good to go.

Nvidia does accomplish what they set out to do(achieve the performance crown), but to suggest that they put the same level of effort and planning into it from the get go as ATI is absurd.

What does this even mean? How do you know what effort and planning is put into each design?

sheesh, can't you guys do a google search?

"We would do an [ATI Radeon HD 3870] X2-like product only if it delivers performance that is simply not possible anywhere with a single GPU. But there's no question that a single GPU is a better approach. " jen hsun huang

I treat nemesis like my 3 year old: if something is easily understandable, fine, otherwise I just pretend that I didn't hear her and keep doing whatever I was doing.
