I am building a new system around the E6700 and I currently have a eVGA 6800GS graphics card. I am getting a SLI enable ASUS motherboard and I am now in the market to find another eVGA 6800GS. However, there are several different versions of this card. I have the 256-P2-N386-AX version. Does the second card have to match this one exactly? There are several versions of this card that have come out, here is a link to the eVGA community which lists them out...

How much difference can be tolarated?

They don't have to be exact. They just have to be the same cores. I have a GeForce 6800 GS I'm willing to sell. Shall I PM you?

By the way, how would I know if they have the same cores? Would that imply that all 6800GS have the same core?

All GSes are the same cores. Nvidia released drivers that allow you to use different cards as long as they have the same core (ex. two 7800GTs or two 7900GTXs). They can be different clocks, different manufacturers, different colours, whatever. As long as they're the same core.

Agreed. The 6800GS is about to be two generation old technology when NVIDIA releases the 8-series in November. You'd better off buying an E6600 and a better graphics card, instead of the E6700 and another 6800GS.

Well, I got the E6700 in a chip loaner program as an employee of Intel. I actually make the chips. I have all the parts that I need to build a system around it and I am going to dual 6800 route for now and plan to possibly do quad SLI in the future when the quad core chip is released. I am looking for a 6800GS for around $100 if anyone has one.
