Dual GPU cards - do you need to enable SLI/XFire in the drivers?

I've never had an SLI/XFire setup nor a dual-GPU card, so I'm unfamiliar as to "how to get it all working."

If I have a dual GPU card such as an HD4870X2, does it work with both GPUs running "out of the box" (after the driver is loaded of course) or do I have to go into the driver control panel and enable something?

Also, assuming there is a "SLI/XFire profile" for whatever game I'm playing, the game should use both GPUs, correct?

I'm trying to be proactive so I already know the procedure for when I do get my dual GPU card. :)

Thank you.

The catalyst drivers would automatically set it on CrossFire.

Hope that answered your question! :)

Edit: Forgot your second question, the answer is yes the game should use both GPUs if the CF drivers do carry the profile for that specific game.

Works in Crossfire out of the box, the CCC treats it as a single card within the control panel so no need to muck around setting things.
