I have an HP dv6000 laptop and recently broke the lcd. It prompted me to try and use both of the video outs simultaneously, something that I have never done before. Usually I would just use the HDMI output and extand the laptops main display.

Long story short...i plugged in a monitor via an hdmi/dvi cable, that worked fine in extending the laptops display, but as soon as i plugged in a VGA cable to another rexternal monitor neither of them work. Same goes for trying to plug in the VGA first then HDMI.

Is this possible? A chat with HP Customer Service left me guessing? I'm not new to configuring computer, just not sure if this is possible on my notebook. Typically I use ultramon to manage my monitors but in this case it seems like it wouldnt matter.

Suggestions?

The Laptop can handle dual displays but the laptops own dispay has to be one of them. You won't be able to run both the DVI and VGA at the same time. Its pretty much one or the other. Its a hardware limitation.

since this sounds like you'll just use the laptop as a desktop from now on (since it has no mobile screen), then you could perhaps remove the LCD and try to connect your DVI monitor straight to the monitor connector (perhaps with some sort of adapter). I've heard that many laptops use connectors that are electrically compatible with DVI internally
