Do the Durons support MP?

I was browsing around and read some MP motherboard reviews and got to thinking about building a dual Duron.

So my questions are can I, if so which motherboard are the best, and also about chipsets. I am a long time nVidia fan, but I dont know if they do MP chipsets.

Also does Linux support MP? And does Windows2000 and XP support.

Please anyone with any knowledge chime in, Thanks

I ran Dual 1Ghz Durons when I got my first 760MPX board. You will need a OS to do SMP. Most, if not all, linux will do this. Win 200pro and XP pro also do SMP. But Win XPhome will NOT.

You know you can also get XP's to do dualy. Get a pair of 1700-1900's, not much more then a pair of Durons, but a lot faster.

One thing to keep in mind... only the OLD durons and XP's will do SMP out of the box. You need to do the L5 bridge mod to most of them. This is very easy to do... basically just take some conductive paint (I've even heard of pecil lead working...) and connect one side with the other. Do a google search... pics are all over the place. As a matter of fact, here is an article with instructions. Good luck! BTW, I'm using a Tyan MPX 2466 and it works great!

I just got the duron 1.6 with ecs k7vta3 mobo for $39.95. After 4 tries, I finally got a board from fry's that works. They kept exchanging it until I found one that would post at 133 or 166. Every time I returned a board, there were others there also returning one. Fortunately, they have about 200 of them stacked on one isle. At 2000, this cpu is comparable to a p4 2.4b running at 2700 (150 fsb). Not bad for a $40 cpu. Don't know if this cpu will do what your inquiring about, but it sure is fast.

The new duron applebreds are actual t-bred cores with cache disabled and thus will work in SMP after being L5-modded.
