Dual Display w/ NV Quadro (Projector screen + Monitor)

I've got a PC here with an NV Quadro4 setup for dual display (clone mode) used for a class with a projector. That part works fine, the only trouble is that they need the projector in other areas of the building so they can't leave it hooked up all the time. When they unhook the projector the PC goes back into single display mode. Here's the problem with that. When they hook the projector back up and need to go back into clone mode, they have to have sufficient access rights to do so, and we don't want to give everyone the needed rights. Is there a way to keep it in clone mode, even with only 1 display hooked up? Its using one of those "Y" VGA connectors plugged into the Quadro which then plugs into the Monitor and Projector.

There's an option somewhere in the nV driver set to "force dual display even if not connected" - but IIRC, doesn't it default to Clone mode if it's been there before? eg - plug in display 2, boom, it's up?

Or just create another account, set up login auditing, and inform them that security compromises are punishable by death. 😛

Hmm.. I never tried plugging it in while the computer was running.. I always turn it off before plugging in another VGA connection, and told them to do the same. Is that safe to do?

I've looked around, I don't see the "force dual display..." option anywhere. I believe its using the 43.xx driver set.. Does the newer 5x.xx have this option?

Shouldn't be a problem, I hot swap VGA cables all the time.

Why don't you use the dual outputs of the video card?

It only has 1 DVI output.. I didn't order the card, was just ordered to install it and make it work. I would have gone with a much more practical solution.
