Dual display questions

My 2001fp just arrived and I have it set up in conjunction with my 19" crt. I have a couple questions that I have not been able to figure out on my own:

1) Is it ideal to have both monitors set to the same resolution? I have the resolution on my crt set to 12x9 because I think that the text looks too small at 16x12. This causes a problem with the wallpapers because on the crt, at 12x9, the wallpaper takes up the full screen, but it is shrunk down with a black border on the lcd at 16x12. Are there any solutions to this other than setting the crt resolution to 16x12?

2) Is it possible to have the lcd set as the primary monitor, but have games load up on the secondary (crt) monitor? So far I've only been able to get games to load on the primary monitor. I would prefer to have my start button, quick launch, etc on the lcd. The only thing I plan on using the crt for is gaming and running IM, email, iTunes in the background. Any ideas?

You need a tool called UltraMon. It will give you the options you seek. 3D acceleration only works on the monitor designated as primary. You will need to set yourr CRT to be the primary monitor for games.

Do you have Nvidia or ATI card? If you have Nvidia card, it's simple. Simply set your CRT as your primary and LCD as secondary. Then toggle on the option in Nview to send the start bar to second display.

If you're using ATI card, you're pretty much out of luck and have to purchase a program called UltraMon. It's like $39 to purchase but you can try it out for free. ATI really needs to improve Hydrovision as its multi-monitor support leaves lot to be desired.

Thanks for the replies. I have an Nvidia card, so I will try the Nview option to move the start bar.

You can also just drag your start menu bar from one monitor to another by clicking on it, so you can set the CRT to primary without worry. Although personally I'd use the 2001fp for games.

I have a 2001FP and I wish I had a CRT for games. Despite the fact that this is a great LCD, its just not as good as a mid to high end CRT for color replication and resolutions other than the native of the LCD. I see a little screendoor effect with this monitor too, but thats just me being picky.

Yup. After the initial excitement of the LCD wore off I began to find faults with both the color replication and minor ghosting in games the more I used it. Still an excellent LCD for gaming but heavy gamers will still prefer a nice CRT.
