dual display on docked laptop, without using laptops LCD?

I would like to run my laptop as a dual display. I use the laptop because although its only a 1.7ghz pentium M.. it has 2GB of ram.. so it will be my workhorse.

I have a dock that has 1 VGA and 1 DVI (for which I have an adapter)

My question is this. Can I plug a monitor into both ports on the DOCK and run dual screen WITHOUT being forced to use the laptops LCD? Basically the laptop will be on the dock with it's lid closed.

Has anyone tried this?

Id like to accomplish the goal without spending any money on extra hardware for the laptop. My second LCD is coming in the mail in a few days and I guess I will just have to try it out and see if it works. Ill let everyone know the result.

I am in the market for a new laptop specifically because I need a dual monitor set up. I want to use software for church worship service like EasyWorship or SongSelect. They require a dual video card set up I believe.

However, a laptop with a dual video card is $$$$. Can I fudge it by using this on one video card?
