Hey all... First post...

I search google on this topic, but can't find any answers there, so perhapes you'll can help.

I have 2 1800fp's and to take advantage of both DVI inlets, I have a 9700 Pro and just purchased a 9200SE. After installing the 9200SE yesterday and getting the second monitor's DVI connection working, I am now having problems with my primary display. Windows Fade Effect was causing 100% cup usage, so I turned it off. I also had to turn off the option to "Show window contents while dragging" because it too was causing large CPU usage. The only error I can't solve is to determine why I CANNOT playback movies in Windows Media Player at full screen on the primary display (driven by the 9700 Pro) but I CAN playback the same movies at full screen on the secondary display (driven by the 9200SE video card). Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, Thomas

Check whether the 9700 is still being run by Radeon drivers, not generic, unaccelerated "VGASAVE".

To install the 9200SE, windows forced me into downloading and installing the lastest (4.3) radeon drivers. So yes, the 9700 is running 4.3 along with the 9200SE

More interesting things I've found to be in error with Windows Media Player and dual monitors...
To give more background on this issue, I have 2 boxes hooked up to both of these monitors, at first I thought the problem was isolated to the box that just received the new 9200SE. I was wrong. This problem spans both machines, one with Windows 2000 Pro and one with Windows 2000 Server. The Windows 2000 server box has a AGP Nvidia Geforce 440 and an old PCI 3DFX 3000 card.

Now, to the problem... If the windows explorer window is located in the secondary display, and I attempt to start an AVI type movie, Windows Media Player will startup, BUT will kick an error out saying that "there is a problem with your sound or video device. Try installing a new device driver." The sound still plays just fine, but the video is non-existant. If that same windows explorer window is moved to the primary display, the video plays just fine. Even more odd is that fact that if the explorer window is in the secondary display, I can actually watch the movie if I don't mind viewing it inside that tiny little preview window on the left hand side of the explorer window. This problem is universal to both machines with have different processor types, different video cards and a slightly different operating system.

Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

Hi.

My name is Josh and I'm an IT Technician for a firm in the UK.

One of my CAD users left me to solve her video playing problems in Media Player 9 today. I've been at it since this morning - installed the Catalyst latest drivers for her ATI Radeon 9700 Pro video card, same for her sound card, reinstalled Media Player 9 and installed Win2000 SP4. But still the same problem.

Hunted a few keywords on Google and found your posting on the Forum which explains EXACTLY the same symptoms I have. You are not alone.

I haven't found a cure yet. If I do, I'll be sure to let you know. If you could do the same, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Josh.

Are you sure its your Primary display? In the settings tab of the display properties click the "identify" button, if its your Primary display, you should see a 1, if you see a 2, you need to make it your primary display. Click on the display icon showing 2 and check "Use this device as my Primary display"

sorry to hear of your problems. I have an almost identical setup...
2x 1800FPs, 1x 9700pro, 1x 9100.

no problems here however. good luck.
