I am having a little problem. I have a Matsonic 7070SD dual p3 motherboard. Right now I have only one p3 cpu in it, and the other socket just has a terminator card. The manual says I need this thing called an APICS card that allows dual cpu function, there is a socket for it on my board, but I can't get a response from Matsonic nor find it on ebay. What do I do? Does anyone know where to get it or have it? I really want to squeeze more out of this older computer by adding another 100 dollar p3 cpu and doing some smp.

Thanks

Hi vdharia, welcome to the Forums :) I looked up the user manual for the 7070SD to see what kind of board it is, and I see it's a dual-Slot1 board with the 440BX chipset, maxing out at a 550MHz Katmai-version P3. In the first place, I think you can get a better deal on a second P3, but in the second place, dual 550's would still be outperformed by a 1GHz Duron in practically all circumstances, plus I don't know where you can buy the APIC for it (Google gives no results for "Matsonic 7070SD APIC", which is a bad sign). So unless you can find a used one for sale, I would either switch to a faster single CPU, or buy a used Tyan Tiger100 (preferably revision F) which can run single or dual Slot1 P3's without needing an APIC unit or terminator card.

The revision-F model handles 100MHz-bus P3E (Coppermine) up to 850MHz, by the way, while revision E and prior only handle the Katmai 100MHz-based P3's up to 600MHz.

vdharia, you've been double-posting. See my reply in the other copy.
