Dual CPU and Dual Core

Read several posts suggesting that implementing a dual cpu or dual core cpu system would be the way to go for video encoding (VE ). Wouldn't this setup be pointless if the PC was only going to be used for VE. That is, the machine would be incapable of running any faster than a single configuration and the other CPU (or core) would just be sitting there idle.

we got proprietary calcualtors we wrote off fincad.. we were waiting on these for a while.. over 2 years now... instead of sinking money into more of the Quad xeons that we got, the dual core / dual chip (+ dual core) would be cost saving and higher performance than the xeons.. can't wait for quad chip with dual core in each...

If all you do is gaming and surfing the web. Yes, dual cores sucks for now.
Especially the intel ones, Prescott 3.2GHz is crap comparing a 2.4GHz 1MB Cache A64
