Dual Cores

I was wondering is a 2.2 dual core is 2 cores runnin at 2.2 or 2 runnin at 1.1? sorry im a noob and thanks in advance

Dual core is rated speed time 2

Opteron 170 is Dual Core 2.0 GHZ..both cores run at 2.0GHZ(same for X2 dual core chips)

both cores run at the full speed. you cant add both speeds together.
