Dual Core Xeon?

It looks like Dell is going to have this available in their Precision line. Think its worth it?

If you goto the Precision 670 x64 on Dell's site, there's actually a phone number to call concerning getting these in a Dell. We're currently pricing out a dual 3.6ghz Xeon box, and I'm curious if trying to upgrade this to dual core is worth my time and money? I don't think I've seen any reviews yet...

My assumption is that even two 2.8ghz Dual Core chips won't touch the performance of Dual 3.6ghz chips?

This workstation is going to be used for high-end Video editing and encoding (Premiere/After Effects) up to HD resolutions, as well as 3D modeling.

Dont hold me to this but I dont think the Dual Core Xeons will be much faster per clock than two Xeons. The advantage is you are using a single socket.
 
I haven't seen much about the dual core Xeons, so I don't know how they compare, but I would think if your running software that is smp aware (and I would assume the HD editing stuff your running is), 4 physical processors even running at slower speeds would outperform 2 higher clocked processors even though they have hyperthreading.
 
dual proc dual core will look like 8 HT processors.

wonder if these are direct drop in or new socket...
 
I had one with xeon 2.8, 512 ecc ddr2 ram, 80GB sata. cdrom, Nvidia Quadro NVS 280.

Looks like the performance is same like the ordinary pc. or maybe i don't utilised it well.

Will there only be 2.8ghz dual core dual Xeons available on release? Any higher clocked chips?

I would also think that with HT, 8 cores would have a significance in software like Premiere. Since its so new, I think I might just go with dual 3.6's for now. Here's hoping that it will be upgradeable to dual-cores down the Intel lineup.
