Dual Core with linux.

is there a noticable performance increase from single core going to dual core with linux?

If you use multithreaded apps, sure. If not, it depends on how much multitasking you do and if it's CPU bound.

MBrown, the differences in feel/smoothness would be similar to the differences you would experience in any operating system. The thing to remember is if you must use the SMP kernel in Linux for the benefits to be realized, just as you would need to upgrade the HAL or reinstall Windows for it.

except recompiling for linux would be lots quicker then reinstalling windows, although you may not have SMP version of apps. The easy way around this is to use gentoo, and tell it to recompile everthing 😛. Do that friday night before going home and it would be finished way before monday too.
