Hey guys, I just recently purchased a new machine and I am having trouble with CS 1.6

Whenever I play, about every 20 seconds the game lags for a short bit and then comes back. I thought ACPI was responsible (and asked for help on here) for the problem, but I can't turn off ACPI on my motherboard so I'm assuming it is a must have for dual core Athlons. Well, now I am stuck with ACPI turned on, but I need to find some way to fix this problem. Has anyone experienced a problem with this kind of setup? Anyone know how to fix it?

- ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe (1013 bios)
- Athlon 64 x2 3800+
- 2GB OCZ Platinum
- 2x36GB Raptor Drives in a RAID 0 using nforce Raid
- nVidia GeForce 7800GT
- Onboard sound and network

All the drivers are up to date.

Hope you guys are smarter than I am.

Do you have the X2 driver installed? That seems to help in a lot of cases. If that doesn't work, try setting the affinity to use only a single CPU.

I downloaded the drivers from amd's website? Is there another driver I should have?

How do I set the affinity? I'm sorry, I am new. Thanks for the help!

I realized that I had downloaded the amd drivers but when I tried to install them it got mad at me for not having sp2 yet. When this happened I installed the drivers on the disc that came with the mobo. These drivers suck I guess. I installed sp2 and installed the downloaded drivers that you suggested and poof, everything was better. You're a genius stev, I really appreciate you helping me out.
