Is it worth it for basic use and gaming? I got a 8800GT and 4gb memory coming. I am deciding if I should upgrade my C2D E6300@2.8ghz to Quad. But I really don't want to spend the extra if there is no use.

Well with quad you will have 2 duels going on at once which obviously takes more system resources and attention than 1 duel. So if I were you I'd stay put for a bit until the dueling dies down a little bit. Or you could just make your processor duel faster, you should be able to crank it up to at least 3ghz from what I've read around here...

The multiplier on his E6300 is 7. To get to 3GHz, he'd need the FSB cranked up to 428MHz.
While 3GHz can be squeezed out of the E6300, I'd think water cooling might be called for over the Freezer 7 Pro.

BTW, For gaming I'd stick with a dual core running fast over a quad core. ;)

1. I doubt he needs watercooling to hit 3ghz. Heck, I think the freezer could handle voltages up to around 1.425ish, which would probably get a proc up to around 3.5ghz range if he's lucky.

2. Is my sarcasm detection detector broken? *taps*

OP: FFS it's dual. :frown: By spelling it wrong in your thread title, you're only encouraging others to do the same.

Still, on the plus side, you do get comedy post reponses about duelling :)

no offense, but that's BS. and you're a very weird guy. every single post I've seen you make has been weird. plain out wrong or just stupid. why the hell would a quad require more system resources? you have twice the cores so the computer will run slower? does that even make sense? what the hell??

OP, there are some games that are written to take advantage of quad core. i know that crysis, SupCom and SupComFA as well as UT3 can utilize quad core. if you play those games, it can help. if you're just playing older games that can't take advantage of mutlithreading, then there's no point.

Whoa, settle down there :p. He meant it in a tongue-in-cheek way. The OP originally misspelled it ("duel", instead of "dual"), so in that context, I thought it was pretty funny.
