Dual core temps (again)

I have 2 PCs, one with a 4850e on a 780G board the other with a BE-2400 on a 690G board (both Gigabyte).

I'm having the same problems a lot of people seem to be having working out their true CPU temps. I can fathom out the temp that Speedfan, Easytune, PC Wizard etc thinks is the CPU temp. The Easytune CPU temp is displayed under some label or other by all these other programs and behaves as you'd expect it to under load. However this temp is different to that shown in the BIOS. I haven't investigated the 4850e quite so much but after a good HD workout for the BE-2400 Easytune and BIOS semed to be 8 degrees apart (BIOS higher). The BIOS reading seems to much more likely.

Is the BIOS reading accurate? I have Smartfan set to the voltage setting within the BIOS with a linear adjustment in Easytune between 20 and 50 degrees and the fan reading in the BIOS conforms to exactly what I would expect for the CPU temp shown in BIOS, so if the BIOS temp is accurate I can work back from the fan speed to give me a CPU temp within XP.

I just have my doubts that the BIOS reading can be that good when all else (including Coretemp) seems to be garbage.
