dual core suggestions

Whats the best dual core CPU I can upgrade to keeping my existing motherboard, MSI Neo4f, and RAM, 2 GB DDR400. I currently have a AMD64 3000+ Venice which can do 2630 on air. I know my mobo supports both the X2 and the Opty 165? SO which works better?

I am partial to the 170 opteron due to the better multiplier....Many of these chips make it to 2.8ghz and with the 9x multi you would need an HTT of 311+....That may be pushing it on that mobo. then if you got one of those rare ones that can make 3ghz on air you would need a whopping 333mhz HTT. Get the 170 and rel;ax knowing you can get 292HTT to work now with your current 3000+...

Both work fine in terms of X2 and opty....Opterons seem to OC a bit better but will run you a few more dollars...
