dual core or not for gaming

Hi,

want to build a good performance gaming setup all the time,
will dual core such as AMD X2 3800+ do way better than ordinary AMD athlon 64 3800+

The reason i choose AMD because i don't see anyone using INTEL anymore... and all of my pc at home are INTEL, this time will give AMD a try. I doubt no one is going to argue with me this time...

will play Quake 4 and Fear and these kind of games.
Will get a 7800GT or something around this range. (not going to get anything higher because of budget.)

Ram : Corsair 1gb to 1.5gb
motherobard, don't know which one yet, but may prefer Asus and gigabyte

talking about overclockable,, is corsair good to be oc? or OCZ? but it is a little pricey.

Thank you

i would get the x2, the 7800gt would be a good card for yea, try to get ocz if you are going to be overclocking.

if you have a choice of 1.5gb OCZ or 2gb corsair, go with the corsair.

Apparently Nvidia is making drivers that utilize dual cores, which is a good thing...

But get the opteron 165, cheaper, bigger cache. great ocer!...

For motherboards, get an Epox, for DFI will do you no good since you have corsair ram (incompatibiliy, steered me away from it)...

Also, get 1 GB of G.skill DDR500 ram, and add a 2nd stick later 🙂

well it is the Evolution of DDR technology, for gaming DDR2 is a MUST BUY! 🙂

DDR2 is actually inferior to DDR at this point in time, because only Intel motherboards support it.

OP, are you building a whole box or whole PC? What's your budget?

I suggest a Dual-core Opteron, because regardless of clockspeed all current games will give acceptable performance on all current socket 939 cpus, but future games will make use of SMP more and more. Current games will be limited just by your video card.

WOW, that 6MB Internet connection is for more than one PC, unless your Downloading Stuff, Updating Steam, Surfing the Net and Playing Online all at the same time!

yes, i do everything with just a single 6mb connection which i think i need to get a faster connection.

However i just don't know which to get...
