dual core Opteron vs dual core Athlon

i am thinking of replacing my single core 939 cpu if i can find one used for cheap

i need to know first though what to look for; i read that opterons are better for overclocking... is this true? what are other differences? (i am looking at lower end dual-cores)

The socket 939 Opties are essentially just 1MB cache Athlon 64 X2s. There is anecdotal evidence that they overclock slightly better on average than regular X2s. They most likely do have to pass stricter validation as they are workstation/server grade chips, which might account for the better overclocking.
