Intel's Ivy Bridge processors are a die 22nm shrink of the Sandy Bridge chips and feature the same architecture with a few minor tweaks and an improved graphics core. This will receive DirectX 11 support as well as 30% more EUs than the HD 3000 GPU used in current second generation Core processors.
Other CPU features include better AVX performance, an integrated PCI Express 3.0 controller as well as native USB 3.0 support thanks to the Panther Point chipsets, which are also expected to enter mass production in the final week of December 2011.
Intel's 22nm Ivy Bridge processors use the same LGA 1155 socket as their current counterparts, so most Sandy Bridge motherboards should be compatible with these chips after a simple BIOS update.

Agreed, though I'm sure AMD will try to quickly introduce new processors to counter IB as well. Though it seems they might have trouble catching up. SB is a great success, it's hard to overcome already. Planning to buy a laptop when IB is out.

The only really dumb mistake of Intel is with their integrated graphics. Stronger processor - better graphics..? Who buys i7 2600k just to use it with integrated graphics? People who don't have enough money or need for discreet gpu buy Pentium G series or i3. These processors should have better integrated graphics, not high-end i7.

..let's hope that quote is on the money notty22 and finally Intel is paying some due respect to GPU performance and software support. It doesn't have to eclipse AMD/Nvidia hardware, but it must be able to do the same tasks, just like AMD's CPU's not the outright fastest, but they get everything done in good time...
